Privacy Policy

Last updated:

SupafastTech LLC ("we", "our", "us") operates Linguin, an AI translation product available as a mobile app for iOS and Android, a macOS app, a Chrome extension and a website at linguin.app (together, the "Service"). This policy describes exactly what data the Service collects, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it and how you can delete it.

1. Text You Submit for Translation

Translating text means sending that text off your device. There is no on-device translation engine in Linguin. Where your text goes depends on which feature you use:

  • AI translation (mobile apps, macOS app, the translator on our website and the extension side panel): your text is sent over an encrypted connection to our own API on our own servers, and from there to OpenRouter, which routes it to DeepSeek models to produce the translation. The result is returned to you.
  • Full page translation and selection translation in the Chrome extension: your browser sends the text directly to Google's public translation endpoint (translate.googleapis.com). If that endpoint is unavailable or rate limited, the extension falls back to MyMemory (api.mymemory.translated.net).

Important: MyMemory's terms allow text submitted to their free API to be added to their public translation memory, which other users can search. Please do not use page or selection translation for confidential, sensitive or personal text. AI translation does not use MyMemory.

2. Translation History

If you are signed in, each translation you make is saved to your history: the source text, the translated text, the language pair and a timestamp. History is stored in our database, linked to your account, and syncs between your devices so you see the same list in the app, on macOS and in the extension.

If you are not signed in, we do not save your translations to a history on our servers.

You control this data. In the mobile app open the History tab and use Clear All, or swipe a single entry to delete it. In the Chrome extension side panel and in the macOS app, open history and use the clear history control. Deletion is immediate and permanent on our side.

3. Operational Notifications to Our Team

We monitor translation quality and errors in near real time. When a translation is completed, our backend sends a short service message to an internal team channel. That message can include: a truncated excerpt of the source text and of the translation (up to 200 characters per field from our API, up to 600 characters per field from the Chrome extension), the language pair, the character count, the translation engine and style, the platform, app version and operating system, the approximate country and city derived from your IP address, and, if you are signed in, your email address.

We use these notifications only to detect broken translations, bad output quality, failures of a provider and abuse. The channel is private and access is limited to our own team. These messages are not shared with any third party, are not sold, are not used for advertising and are not used to build profiles of you. If you would rather no excerpt of your text ever reaches this channel, do not submit confidential text to the Service.

4. Account, Device and Usage Data

Account

You can use much of Linguin without an account. If you sign in, we store your email address and the sign-in method you used (email code, Apple or Google), plus any profile details you choose to set, such as a display name or avatar. Signing in is what enables history sync and access to a paid plan across devices.

Device and usage

When the app or extension starts, it sends us a small technical record so we can count installs and active users:

  • A random device identifier (a UUID generated on your device, not a hardware serial number, and on mobile the vendor identifier your operating system provides)
  • Platform, device and operating system description, and app or extension version
  • Interface language and approximate country, resolved from your locale, from our network provider's country header, or from an offline IP to country database on our own server
  • Your email address if you are signed in at that moment

We do not collect precise location, contacts, photos, calendars, browsing history or the list of pages you visit.

Support and feedback

If you email us or answer the in-app feedback survey, we keep what you send so we can reply and act on it. Survey answers can be submitted without an account, in which case they are not linked to your identity.

Payments

Purchases on our website are processed by Stripe. Purchases inside the iOS and macOS apps are processed by Apple, and inside the Android app by Google Play. We never see or store your full card number. We store only the result of the purchase on your account: whether you are on a paid plan, which plan and when it expires, plus the identifiers the payment provider gives us to reconcile the purchase.

5. Chrome Extension

The extension is deliberately built to hold as little access as possible.

  • No standing access to your browsing. The extension declares no permanent content scripts and no broad site access by default. Its code is injected into a page only when you act: you open the side panel, use the right click menu to translate a selection or the page, or click the extension icon.
  • Page text is read only for a translation you asked for. When you translate a page or a selection, the visible text of that page or selection is collected and sent to the translation service described in section 1, and the translated text is written back into the page.
  • "Translate every page" is optional. Automatic translation of every page you open requires a broad site permission that Chrome asks you to grant explicitly. If you do not enable that feature, the permission is never requested. Turning the feature off stops automatic reading of pages.
  • Permissions and why they exist: activeTab and scripting to translate the tab you are on, storage to keep your settings and session on your device, contextMenus for the right click items, sidePanel for the side panel, identity for sign in. Network access is limited to linguin.app, api.linguin.app, translate.googleapis.com and api.mymemory.translated.net.
  • What the extension does not collect: passwords, credit card numbers or anything you type into a form, your cookies, your browsing history, and the URLs of pages you visit. None of these are read or transmitted to us.

6. Website Analytics and Cookies

Our website linguin.app loads third party analytics a few seconds after the page becomes idle: Google Analytics 4, Microsoft Clarity (which records anonymised page interaction and session replays to show us where the site is confusing) and Ahrefs Analytics. These set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and process technical data such as your IP address, browser, device and pages viewed. You can block them with any standard content blocker or browser privacy setting without losing site functionality.

The Chrome extension itself sets no cookies and loads no analytics scripts.

7. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only with the providers needed to run the Service:

  • OpenRouter and DeepSeek - receive the text you submit for AI translation in order to produce the translation.
  • Google (translate.googleapis.com) - receives text sent for page and selection translation in the Chrome extension. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy
  • MyMemory (Translated srl) - fallback engine for page and selection translation. Text submitted to their free API may become part of their public translation memory.
  • Stripe - payment processing for purchases made on the website.
  • Apple and Google Play - payment processing and subscription management for in-app purchases.
  • Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Ahrefs - website analytics only, not present in the apps or the extension.
  • Our own infrastructure - our API, database and file storage run on servers we rent and administer ourselves. Account data, translation history and profile data live there and are not handed to any other party.

We may also disclose data when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and our service.

8. Data Retention

  • Translation history: kept until you delete it or delete your account.
  • Account and profile data: kept while your account exists.
  • Device and usage records: kept while your account or install is active, and deleted with your account.
  • Operational notification messages: remain in our private internal channel with access restricted to our team, and are used only for monitoring and debugging.
  • Support emails and survey answers: kept as long as needed to handle the request and improve the product.
  • Text passed to translation providers: governed by those providers' own policies, which we link to above. We do not control their retention.

9. How to Delete Your Data

  • Translation history: mobile app, History tab, Clear All (or swipe to delete one entry). Chrome extension side panel and macOS app: open history and use the clear history control.
  • Chrome extension local data: removing the extension from Chrome deletes its local storage, including the device identifier and your settings.
  • Your account and everything attached to it: email linguin@supafast.tech from the address on the account and ask for deletion. We complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by email.

10. Your Rights (GDPR and CCPA)

Depending on where you live, you have the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access - request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Rectification - ask us to correct inaccurate data
  • Erasure - request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability - receive your data in a machine readable format
  • Objection - object to certain types of processing
  • Restriction - ask us to limit how we process your data
  • Non discrimination - we will not degrade the Service because you exercised a right

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA and CPRA.

To exercise any right, email linguin@supafast.tech. We respond within 30 days.

11. International Transfers

We operate from the United States and our providers are located in several countries, so your data may be processed outside your own country. We rely on standard contractual protections offered by these providers and send them only the data needed to deliver the feature you used.

12. Children's Privacy

Linguin is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

13. Data Security

All traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted with TLS. Access to our production database and internal channels is restricted to our team. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Significant changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
